Walker Fire Department
serving the Walker Community since 1968

The Walker Fire District Consideration Committee has been formed by volunteer community members to propose the formation of a Walker Fire District which would provide regular and consistent funding for the Walk Fire Department.

The goal of the consideration committee is to reach all of the property owners within the proposed fire district boundary and educate them as to the benefits of becoming a fire district and what impact it would have on them, including the increase in their property taxes so when the petition drive starts they can confidently decide to approve the formation of the Walker Fire District or not.

The community of Walker continues to grow in population as residences are built and properties are visited and enjoyed.  The number of medical emergencies has grown from a couple per year in 2000 to 29 calls in 2007.  The quantity and value of homes has increased significantly as well which we want to protect from wild land fires.  Insurance rates rise to keep up with home replacement costs and the insurance industry recognizes the importance of timely response with equipment and trained people by a rating system based on those capabilities.  The Walker community has been blessed with many dedicated people who have provided Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Response as volunteers.  As the needs of the community continue to grow, it has become increasingly difficult to purchase and maintain the equipment and facilities needed as well as the staff to provide timely response at all times.
